Race The Bass

With increasing dexterity, he transforms music into great music with his love of a variety of musical styles and his naturally creative engagement with his instrument. Often at his best when improvising, he plays with pure class time and again, on both bass and guitar and in an array of musical environments.

He mostly dreams up very cool bass-lines, often immediately delivering flawless and miracuously inventive takes, having just heard a song for the first time. It's a perfectly beautiful and ultra-productive time whenever Neil pops in to Race The Bass.

Who's Neil?

Tracy Neil Elliss Brookes has been a musician, composer, singer-songwriter and recording artist for most of his working life. He currently records with a number of bands and artists, notably Full Circle, The Orange Show and Auto-pilot. Let's face it, RTB were pretty chuffed that Neil chose to get on the bus.

Having recently regrouped with most of the original line-up of the acclaimed South West Funk oufit, The Harlem Trainspotters, he's been busy on the live circuit again as part of a talented, classic-wielding funk-guru group called Full Circuit; and he loves every minute of it. He continues to give back to music by organising open-mic nights and he was a key member of Bristol-based Bud, their 2001 album Outside It Rains taking it's name from Neil's lyric.
